About
I am an historian in the School for Security and Africa Studies, Stellenbosch University, South Africa. I have published in the areas of war and society, British and commonwealth history and the history of sub-saharan African. I am interested particularly in the history of Europe's relations with Africa and transnational life histories.
I am head of department and have also served two terms as chair of the School for Security and Africa Studies (2006-2009). I have more than fifteen years of experience in higher education and have served in several Stellenbosch University committee structures, including the Humanities Research Ethics Committee (since 2007), the Faculty Research Committee (since 1996) and doctoral admissions and examination committees. I am currently establishing a doctoral programme in military studies with a specialisation in military history and strategy.
I am a Rated Researcher (C1) of the National Research Foundation of South Africa.
